MICRO INDUSTRIES INTRODUCES A NEW PICMG PASSIVE BACKPLANE CPU BOARD FEATURING INTEL CELERON PROCESSOR TECHNOLOGY
686PCI/64P3 Provides Cost Effective Performance Enhancements for OEMs Incorporating PICMG Form Factor into a Wide Range of Embedded Solutions
Westerville, Ohio, June 2, 1999
Micro Industries Corporation today introduced the 686PCI/64P3, a new PICMG passive backplane CPU board featuring Intel® Celeron™ processor technology. The 686PCI/64P3 provides a high performance single board solution for OEM and industrial PC-compatible applications in a wide range of embedded solutions including imaging, industrial control and monitoring, telecom, telephony, and data acquisition. Micro Industries is an electronics manufacturing services (EMS) company that provides electronic engineering and manufacturing resources to OEMs.
"The Intel Celeron processor delivers high performance for value-conscious developers of dedicated and connected performance-driven applications," said Joe Jensen, director of marketing, Intel Embedded Microcomputer Division. "The Celeron processor is Intel's most popular processor for value PCs. Manufacturers such as Micro Industries, which was one of the first companies to introduce boards based on this architecture, offer OEMs an opportunity to utilize increased power with reduced costs, which ultimately delivers more value to consumers."
"The 686PCI/64P3 is designed with the Celeron processor and the Intel BX Chipset technology, which offer significant performance enhancements over Pentium and 486 designs, and a higher level of integration over previous products," stated Michael Curran, president and CEO of Micro Industries. "With this new product, we are offering OEMs remarkable power, speed, and value, coupled with our long term support."
The 686PCI/64P3 is based on the Intel Celeron 370-pin PPGA (plastic pin grid array) socket processors. This full-featured single board solution supports all the standard PC functions as well as several high performance interfaces such as PCI SCSI, 10/100 bit Ethernet, and graphics accelerator.
686PCI/64P3 Features
- Intel BX Chipset and Celeron Processor: Support of Intel Celeron Socket-370 compatible processors up to 466MHx, up to 512MB DRAM, and AGP video offers OEMs the latest in speed, performance, and value.
- Symbios 875 Ultra SCSI Controller: This PCI SCSI controller, which supports Ultra SCSI transfers up to 40MB per second and 8 or 16-bit devices, is an extension of the SCSI-2 standardthat expands the bandwidth of the SCSI bus and allows faster synchronous SCSI transfer rates. It is designed for reliable operation in all cabling environments.
- Intel 82559 Ethernet Controller: Intel's highly integrated 32-bit PCI LAN controller for 10 or 100 MB per second fast Ethernet networks is the company's leading solution for PCI LAN designs. It combines a small package design with low power expenditure to conserve energy.
- Intel 69000 Graphics Controller: This highly integrated graphics controller for embedded and industrial PC applications is integrated with 2MB SDRAM display memory. It is the first member of the HiQVideoTM family to integrate high speed SDRAM frame buffer memory into the chip, delivering uncompromised performance and at the same time consuming much less power than the discrete solution.
- M-Systems DiskOnChip® 2000: This high performance single-chip flash disk is available in 2-72MB capacities. It is designed to offer a better, faster, and more cost-effective data storage solution for single board computers.
